News Releases. Our office provides marriage license records to couples getting married in the near future and even performs civil ceremonies for a small fee. Once a couple has obtained their marriage license and participated in a qualified ceremony, the marriage license becomes a marriage certificate that must be sent back to our office to be recorded.

Our office only records marriage certificates for marriage licenses that were obtained in Los Angeles County. If you obtained your marriage license in another state or California county, the we will not record your marriage certificate, nor will have your marriage record on file. You must participate in a civil or religious ceremony, after which the marriage license must be completed and returned for recording. Our office does not maintain any divorce records or information.

A judge or retired judge of a court of appeals, a district court, or a court created by an act of Congress the judges of which are entitled to hold office during good behavior.

A legislator or constitutional officer of this state or a member of Congress who represents a district within this state, while that person holds office. The person solemnizing the marriage must return the original marriage license to the County Clerk or County Recorder as applicable within 10 days of the date of the ceremony. Addresses should be on the county site. You will NOT receive a copy of your marriage license after you have been married unless you request and pay for a certified copy from the County Clerk or County Recorder as applicable.
